REPRESENTASI RASISME TERHADAP ETNIS TIONGHOA DALAM FILM NGENEST KARYA ERNEST PRAKASA (Analisis Semiotika John Fiske)

Abstract

This research purpose to know the representation of racism against Chinese ethnic in Ngenest movie. The theory used in this research is the theory of John Fiske semiotics. Concepts related to this research include mass communication, film, representation and racism. The paradigm of this research is critical, the approach of this research is qualitative with the research method of John Fiske semiotics . The analysis in this research was to observed images of the Ngenest movie scene using 3 levels of analysis, namely the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology in which included elements representation of racism against Chinese ethnic. The results of this research indicate that there are several acts of racism both directly and indirectly that appear in the film such as prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. The conclusion of this research is the acts of racism in Ngenest movie is represented through the actions of the natives seen from their treatment to the Chinese ethnic because of the basic differences.
