Abstract




Nowadays there are many applications that give information from all over the world or can also be used as communication media. One of them is Instagram, many accounts provide information quickly to its specific followers, such as culinary information, lifestyle, legal or sports. In an institution or university, the majority have Student Activity Unit (UKM) in the field of sports, such as Budi Luhur Jakarta University which owns a Futsal UKM. Account with username @Futsal_UBL is one of the Instagram users who provide information about Futsal student activity Unit of Budi Luhur University South Jakarta. The methodology of this research uses a constructivism paradigm, with a qualitative approach, and the method used is a descriptive research method. It uses social media theory and media ecology. The purpose of this research is to understand how social media specifically Instagram is used as communication media and promotional tools for Budi Luhur University. Based on the result of the research, it shows that @futsal_UBL Instagram account has several aspects as social media tools to provide information related to the activity of Futsal UKM Budi Luhur University, provide entertainment content, as a form of showing existence as UKM, as a way of building networking such as cooperation with followers to obtain sponsorship and as a promotional media.
