Representasi Patriotisme Dalam Film Dokumenter Apocalypse: The Second World War Ii (Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Film often affects those who witness it through the content in the film, whether positive or negative. An action movie is often seen as negative because it contains only violent scenes. One of them is a war film, which is often considered to only contain the action of exchanging shootouts, killing each other and other sadistic actions. This research was made to refute all negative views about war films which were considered to only contain mutually violent acts and kill each other, but on the other hand there must be positive things behind the war, namely the value of Patriotism carried out by soldiers and citizens involved in war. This paper examines film “Apocaclypse: The Second World War II” as the object of research with a qualitative approach. This study uses Roland Barthes's semiotic theory with a two-step process of labeling, denotation and connotation, that often gives rise to a myth of the object under study. The result of this study has found some patriotism values in this movie’s scenes namely courage, never giving up, willing to sacrifice and confidence shown by soldiers and citizens of a war-torn country. Eventually, this research concludes that war-themed films not only contain negative values such as killing each other. Apocaclypse: The Second World War II through semiotic analyses has shown some positive values of patriotism.
