Abstract

This research is dedicated to find out the news framing of Jakarta Legal Aid building blockade in Tirto.id and Kompas.com. The research question is how to frame the news of Jakarta Legal Aid building blokcade by a mass of demonstrator in Tirto.id and Kompas.com. The research approach uses the Robert M. Entmen framing analysis with 2 dimensions (selection and salience) and 4 elements (define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement and treatment recommendation). The subject of this research comes from Tirto.id and Kompas.com. The object is from the news of Tirto.id and Kompas.com about Jakarta Legal Aid building blockade dated 18 September 2017). Data gathering is obtained through literature review and text from the main source of Tirto.id and Kompas.com official website. The result of this analysis is Tirto.id emphasizes that allegedly there is an intellectual actor behind the blockade due to the assumption of communist revival meeting. Meanwhile, Kompas.com puts their focus on Hoax Broadcast message that has gone viral in social media that provoke the mass to invade the building. Theoritical advise is to choose 2 media sources or more, eventhough framing is not always about comparing, to gain maximum result and clear conclusion. Practical advise to all mass media users or society to be more critical in receiving information from many sources, so society is not easily being led to reality construction that has been made by media.
