Abstract

Cultivation of water plants in general requires a large area, but there is a cultivation technique of water plants that are popular at this time. The technique is Aquascape,The aquascape has own definition, Aquascape is an art of arranging aquatic plants, stones and woods naturally in the tank so as to give effect like gardening under water. This hobby entered Indonesia in 1980 but at that time the aquascape hobby is still classified as an upscale hobby. This is because hobbyists often do imports of plants from abroad which would require more costs. Along with the development of farmers in Bogor city finally able to cultivate aquatic plants so that the hobby of aquascape began much in demand by the people of Indonesia. Although the cultivation of aquatic plants has been carried out by the community since the 30s of last year, but the activity is only done in a limited and more to respond to foreign demand. It can also be seen from the type of cultivated crops where most come from abroad. To date, the study of water plants in Indonesia has not been done. Lack of information and limitations of knowledge led to the activity of new ornamental plants developed among hobbyists. While the new people want to try to maintain aquatic plants and make aquascaping to be disappointed because the plants are not growing properly grown. Whereas the population of Indonesia reaching more than two hundred fifty million people is a big market for the water plant business. There is possibility making Indonesia as the main producer of aquatic plants in the world. Seeing Indonesia's natural potential and the opportunity to make aquatic plants as an alternative economic source of the community, then the dissemination of information about aquatic plants needs to be done a lot. Dissemination of aquaculture technology developed in the community can be one of the first steps to motivate and give example to other community about cultivation technology of aquatic plants as well as other efforts related to aquatic plants and aquascaping.
