PHYSICAL VIOLENCE AND VERBAL VIOLENCE IN DRAMA SERIES

Abstract

This study to determine the percentage the physical violence and verbal violence contained in “Anak Langit” drama series screened by SCTV (around 8th March – 6th April 2017) and to discover the form of those physical and verbal violence. The questions submitted are how many percentages are the physical and verbal violence contained in “Anak Langit” drama series screened by SCTV (around 6th March-8th April 2017) and what kinds of form of those physical and verbal violence. This study applied quantitative approach. The method of this study was content analyns by applying Holsty analysis theory. The object of this study was “Anak Langit” drama series screened by SCTV. The result of the study reveal that there were physical and verbal violence found the drama series which were specified to some activities, such as categorized as physical violence by punching with the percentage of 44%, beatings 5%, slaping slowly in the head (menoyor) 1%, and pushing (somebody) 4%, and the highest percentage of all physical violence is kicking (somebody) as show by the percentage of 46%. Verbal violence can be categorized into two kinds. Those are threatening and insulting. There are 16% of threatening activities. And insulting the most often verbal violence done by the actor/actress is 84%. The conclution after receiving written warning letter on March 7th 2017, is that “Anak Langit” drama series screened by SCTV (period March 8th-6th April 2017) still contains physical and verbal violence in that scenes with the frequency of physical violence is 176 times and the frequency of verbal violence is 49 times.
